Four more players have been optioned to the New York Mets minor league camp.  Tony Armas Jr.,  Nate FieldJoselo Diaz, and Fernando Martinez were the four players that were optioned down.

Armas Jr. did have some VISA problems getting back into the United States on time for spring training, so he will be getting some extra work at minor league camp before being called back up by the Mets.

The New York Mets trimmed up their spring training roster today as they sent down three players.

Michel Abreu was sent down to minor league camp while Willie Collazo and Carlos Muniz to Triple-A New Orleans.

Abreu didn’t have the spring that he was hoping for as he struck out five times while only going 2 for 14.  Muniz is a guy that the Mets really like, and could see some action in the bullpen for the big league club at some point this season.

Carlos Delgado is day to day after having an MRI on Monday and Ryan Church will be out for a couple of weeks with a grade 2 concussion the Mets reported today.

Delgado is having some problems with his hip and is expected to take a couple of days off just to let it rest.  It will be intersting to see how long of a season Delgado can play as he gets up there in age.  It really seems he has been injured a lot in the past few years, and the Mets are really depending on him to help them make a strong playoff run in 2008.  Time will tell if Delgado is going to be able to help out uch.

Ryan Church has been evaluated and has a grade two concussion that he suffered after a collission with Marlon Anderson on Saturday.  Chuch really just hopes to be back by opening day but he is going to lose out on some at bats that will allow Angel Pagan and Endy Chaves battle it out for the outfield position.

The New York Mets dropped their first spring training game on Wednesday afternoon as they fell to teh Detroit Tigers by the score of 4-2.  It was one bad inning in the 7th inning that the Tigers scored all four of their runs.

Mike Pelfrey started the game for the Mets and pitched two scoreless innings, while Matt Wise, Brian Stokes, Pedro Feliciano and Jorge Sosa followed with a scoreless inning apiece.  Willie Collazo gave up all four runs and took the lose on the game.

As for the Mets offense, they quickly got out to a 2-0 lead in the game as they scored a run in the first and second innings.  In the first inning, Back-to-back singles and a walk in the opening inning set up Ramon Castro’s sacrifice fly to score Angel Pagan.  In the second inning, it was a Anderson Machado triple that plated Michael Abreu that put the Mets up 2-0.

Even though the Mets didn’t win today, you gotta like what they did.  Take that one bad inning out of the game and it could have easily been a Mets victory.  We will have to see how they rebound tomorrow as they face off against the St. Louis Cardinals.
